Animal Care Attendant 2 (ACA2) - Muskoka Animal Centre
Full Time Position

Responsible for the day-to-day care and cleanliness of the animals and premises.  Provides medical aid and/or first aid to animals as instructed.  Provides customer service to the public and performs reception duties in the Animal Centre.  Reporting to the Animal Centre Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining effective animal care protocol and procedures. Essential functions include

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Feeding of all animals housed within the branch
  • General cleaning and disinfecting of the premises and equipment used within the shelter, i.e. food bowls, cat litter pans, utensils, carrying cages
  • Laundry Duties as required
  • General bathing and grooming of animals
  • Vaccinating and deworming shelter animals
  • Notifying supervisor of any health problems or concerns regarding the animals
  • Exercising of animals
  • Assisting the public with adoptions and inquiries
  • Following policies and procedures set out by the Society and reporting all incidents to his/her supervisor immediately
  • Working in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Immediately reporting all incidents of injury, property damage, absence of or failure of a protective device and/or equipment to the supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a genuine compassion for animals
  • Animal care training and experience would be an asset
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Must be flexible to perform a variety of duties
  • Must not have allergies limiting or affecting exposure to animals
  • Class G Drivers License is required
  • Must have completed grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays

Community Development Coordinator - Barrie Animal Centre
Full Time 18 Month Contract Position- 40 hours per week  

The Community Development Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining effective community relationships and public awareness of the Ontario SPCA through various communication, education, special events, and fundraising initiatives. This position is accountable for achieving fundraising goals and objectives according to the Barrie Animal Centre revenue budget.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meets with key community leaders to inform them of the SPCA’s functions and objectives as well as of activities and goals of local branches
  • Makes presentations to service groups and other local agencies in order to obtain support for the Centre(s)
  • Organizes special events to heighten public awareness and to attract donors.
  • Develops written applications for funding from local organizations.
  • Develops relationships with local media and makes regular contact with them to encourage coverage of branch and relevant Ontario SPCA news.
  • Ensures that Ontario SPCA provincial campaigns are carried out at the local level.
  • Plans and implements special fund-raising initiatives e.g. walk-a-thon, Nevada boxes, etc.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate mutually beneficial partnerships with organizations e.g. PetsMart, PetValu, etc.
  • Assists in attracting and maintaining a volunteer base.
  • Garners support from the public through public awareness events.
  • Organise & Assists in the implementation of Ontario SPCA humane education initiatives at the local level.
  • Follows policies and procedures set out by the Society and reports all incidents to his/her immediate supervisor immediately.
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
  • Immediately reports all incidents of injury, property damage, absence of or failure of a protective device and/or equipment to the supervisor immediately.
  • In the event of injury, works cooperatively with Supervisor to facilitate an early and safe return to work.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the developing the plan and budget for the Barrie Animal Centre.
  • May perform other Ontario SPCA position functions.
  • Develop & Assist in delivery of Barrie Animal Centre events and Humane Ed programs.
  • Meets with key Ontario SPCA Centre staff, volunteers and its committees, as well as local community leaders, corporate partners, service groups, and event sponsors, to cultivate and steward relationships that will assist in increasing revenue and participation in key community fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist the Barrie Animal Centre team in establishing and growing new fundraising initiatives to increase revenue.
  • Recruit, motivate and train taskforce committee volunteers and day-of special event volunteers and work with these volunteers to plan, manage and execute fundraising initiatives.
  • Develop relationships with local media to encourage coverage of branch and relevant Ontario SPCA fundraising initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have proven track record in fundraising.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills required
  • Proven negotiation and volunteer management skills
  • Excellent Presentation and Public Speaking skills
  • Media experience an asset
  • Must be highly self-motivated and a visionary planner
  • Must be a team player
  • Must have genuine compassion for animals
  • M Must be flexible to work some weekends and evenings
  • Must have valid “G” drivers license

Full-time Position – 40 hours per week

 Reporting to the Animal Centre Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining effective animal care protocol and procedures. As an Animal Care Attendant, you would be responsible for the day-to-day care of the animals housed in the shelter as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the shelter. In addition you would provide customer service to the public, including assisting with adoption applications and reception duties.

 Additional responsibilities may include transporting animals to local veterinary clinics for

medical attention and assisting the Animal Centre Manager with other administrative duties.

*Some overnight shifts and travel may be required in support of the Northern Dog Transfer Program.

 The ideal candidate will be a team player with previous animal care training and/or

experience and leadership skills. You will have good customer service and interpersonal skills. You must be organized, flexible, have the ability to prioritize and work independently. You must be available to work weekend hours and some evening hours and have a valid class “G” drivers’ license with reliable transportation.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Orangeville Branch Manager is responsible and accountable for the overall operations of the Branch, promotion of the Ontario SPCA’s mission and implementation of provincial initiatives within the Centre and the surrounding community.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and nurture relationships with volunteers, donors, suppliers, media and municipal government agencies
  • Promote public awareness of the Branch and its services through the media and other marketing mediums.
  • Plan, develop and execute various fundraising activities to increase revenue to the Branch through innovative and effective means
  • Responsible for short-term and long-term planning, budgeting, staffing, volunteer management, fundraising, purchasing, animal care, and other related branch activities.
  • You will be flexible to work weekends and evenings as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three years experience in community outreach, fundraising and networking;
  • Possess a post-secondary business related education or equivalent experience, as well as three years in a similar role with financial management, operational planning and staff supervision;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and leadership skills will be critical to this position;
  • Proven experience in community relations and business marketing, volunteer management and media will be considered assets; good understanding of the Community
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • If considered, you must have a Valid Class “G” driver’s license, be able to provide and maintain a clean Drivers Abstract and have no criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
